How to Fix MetaMask Wallet Balance Showing Zero Error

Opening your MetaMask wallet only to see a balance of zero can be terrifying, but it is almost always a visual sync glitch rather than a loss of funds. This usually occurs right after a mobile app update, a browser extension patch, or when the wallet gets disconnected from the network's Remote Procedure Call (RPC) nodes.

Follow these three verified steps to force your correct crypto balance to refresh immediately:
Step 1: Switch Networks to Reset the Sync
Often, the wallet simply loses its connection to the main network. In your MetaMask app or extension, click the network dropdown menu at the top left (it likely says "Ethereum Mainnet"). Switch it to a different network like Polygon or Arbitrum, wait 5 seconds, and then switch it back to Ethereum. This forces the wallet to send a fresh request to the blockchain ledger.
Step 2: Manually Clear the Wallet Privacy Data
If switching networks doesn't work, local cache data might be blocking the display. Go to Settings ──► Advanced ──► scroll down and click "Clear Activity Tab Data" (or Reset Account). Do not worry—this will not delete your crypto or reset your seed phrase. It simply clears your local transaction history cache, forcing MetaMask to scan the blockchain completely fresh.
Step 3: Check the Official Block Explorer
To completely ease your mind, copy your public wallet address and paste it into Etherscan.io (or the tracker for whichever blockchain you are using). If the block explorer shows your correct crypto balance, your funds are 100% safe, confirming that the issue is entirely a temporary visual bug within your local MetaMask app interface.
