Simple Ways to Remove Scratches From Your Smartphone Screen at Home

Pulling your smartphone out of your pocket only to realize the glass display is covered in a deep, ugly scratch right across the center of your screen is incredibly frustrating. Every single time you text or scroll through an app, your finger catches on the groove, and it completely ruins the look of your phone. It is easy to panic and assume you need to spend over a hundred dollars on a professional screen replacement. The good news is that if the glass isn't completely cracked or shattered, you can easily minimize or entirely erase light surface scratches from home using everyday household items.

You can easily polish your display glass and restore its smooth surface by checking these three quick troubleshooting spots:
Step 1: Polish the Glass Gently Using Real Baking Soda Paste
The most effective way to smooth out a light scratch on smartphone glass is by using baking soda as a mild, non-destructive abrasive polish. Mix exactly two parts baking soda with one part water inside a small cup, and stir it thoroughly until it forms a thick, smooth paste. Use a clean piece of painter's tape to cover your phone's speaker grills and charging ports to protect them. Drop a tiny pea-sized amount of the paste directly onto the scratch, and use a soft microfiber cloth to rub in gentle circular motions for one minute. Wipe the screen clean with a damp cloth to see the scratch vanish.
Step 2: Apply a Tiny Dab of Traditional White Toothpaste
If you do not have baking soda in your kitchen, you can achieve a similar polishing result using standard white paste toothpaste from your bathroom. Make sure you use traditional paste, not a clear gel variety, as traditional paste contains a very fine abrasive grit designed to clean enamel that works beautifully on surface glass. Put a tiny dab of toothpaste onto a cotton swab or a clean cloth. Rub it gently into the scratch using small circles until the mark fades. Wipe away the excess paste with a clean cloth to smooth out the micro-abrasions.
Step 3: Fill in Remaining Grooves with a Liquid Screen Protector
If your scratch is too deep to be polished out entirely by hand, you can use an optical trick to hide the groove completely from sight. Buy a cheap liquid glass screen protector (made from silicon dioxide) from a local shop. Pour a drop of the specialized liquid directly over the scratch and buff it across the screen. The clear liquid settles directly inside the deep physical grooves of the scratch, hardening to fill the gap letter-for-letter. Once it dries, the light passing through the glass will no longer refract off the scratch, making it completely invisible to your eyes.
